Industrial Athelete

Everyone understands a professional athlete's need to keep his/her body in peak condition. Dr. Gage is equally committed to the health care needs of the Industrial Athlete: Fire Fighters, Police Officers, and all other occupations that make heavy demands on their bodies in the course of their daily job activities. Many back injuries occur on the job by overstretching and from not lifting properly or not using a back support while lifting heavy objects.

It is important for the employee to remember not to overextend while stretching and to bend his/her knees and use their leg muscles while lifting. They should not try to lift a heavy, bulky object alone. Many times employees are zealous and want to impress their employers and simply do not want to ask for help.

That is why Dr. Gage recommends educational seminars and workshops periodically to continue to educate and reinforce proper stretching and lifting techniques.

Additionally, it is strongly recommended that all employees who stretch and lift on a regular daily basis be required to wear a lumbar support belt to reinforce their lower back and help prevent injury.
